This News Cycle Brought To You By John McCain

No matter what anybody says about Lipstick today, McCain wins the day. He steers the agenda. That's one day less we get to have a national conversation about other things. That's one day more when the Entertainment Tonight mentality clouds the political brain. Obama needs to call the tune, every day.

Hey, here's something we can talk about...

Hi --

Does anyone care? Or is this off limits, too????

I am very, very concerned about S. McCain standing up to G. Palin sitting through a speaker that is very racist. Most folks have heard what happened, but why is it not important enough to be front and center. This is what America wants to become in protecting what has been earned.

No. Is it so hard?!

A good example was when she and her family went to the racist (Jewish) speaker at her church. The speaker was announced weeks in advance.

She went anyway. And sat through the whole thing. The speaker was talking about god's retribution. He said that is was ok for a Palisntain(spell) to fill a truck with bombs, drive through a check point, and explode the truck killing Jews.

Of course, McCain says she did not know that was what was to be said. But, she did not get up and quitely said that this is ok. He did not get up either.

In summary, God says it is ok to kill Jews if they are no converted.

Now, if you were in a church and the kkk started saying all sorts of stuff, would you have the guts to leave?

This is all over the web and conservative blog are not standing up either.

You are correct. Issues are not being addressed because most of the issues are 'boring' would turn off the MTV crowd in a heartbeat. To keep voters interested, candidates have to keep their views summarized to a few second sound bites.

Kind of makes you wonder if we should go back to the old days and just let property owners (this time, all colors, all genders) vote. They would be very interested in what Roubini had to say.

Addiction; Not Melanoma May McCain’s Biggest Health Risk

If the subtitle of abc.com’s recent consideration of the elder candidate is correct and “McCains Health is Becoming a Football for the Medical Community,” it’s because the Senator has been secretive about his health during this very public process. Cancer is serious. But McCains associated 6% risk of dying in office which as reported by a Dr. Alam —perhaps leaving Americans with “Wasilla Barbie” and “1st Dude” for global leadership—is hardly the 72 year-old’s only risk. In his own words “Craps is addicting.”

But voters can’t know McCain’s possible disease progression because “Congress recognized the importance of protecting the privacy of health information with their Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), Public Law 104–191, which became law on August 21, 1996.” This means that even if John McCain knows he’s terminally ill, severely mentally ill, or pathologically dependent upon the process addiction of gambling, no laws forbid him from keeping this a secret. This matters much since the behavioral disorder in question has the highest co morbid suicide rate of all addictions . (To date the McCain/Palin campaign has yet to make any disclosure about Palin’s health either).

Statistics from the non-aligned Centre for Responsive Politics show that Mr. McCain is the largest recipient of money from the casino industry in Congress, outside the gambling Mecca’s of Nevada and New Jersey, and that 40 of his top fundraisers and advisers have ties to the gambling industry. In this presidential race he has received twice as much from the industry as Mr. Obama.

Enter a conflict. He routinely seems to gamble hundreds of thousands of dollars for upwards of fourteen hours at a time, at some of the casinos he’s overseen as a two-time Chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. Whether he is winning or losing, it doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to see how a lobbyist bankrolling the senator's marathon craps session might be using this as a way of funneling money into the senator's coffers without drawing attention to the transactions. Finally, all this talk about unreported transactions raises more questions no one in the media will likely bother to ask: For those who have seen wife Cindy McCain’s tax returns, has she ever filed a 5754? Is he hiding his winnings on her tax forms? Is he burying his losses on her forms? Now neither is this writer an accountant or an attorney, but both would seem warranted here.

While certainty, without a professional addiction assessment is not possible, all of the above would indicate for most, a stage 2 to 3 sequlea of symptoms; meaning the man who may be the next leader of the free world evidences ‘problem’ to ‘pathological’ gambling dependence.
Roughly two million individuals in this country meet the criteria for ‘pathological gambler’. Over four million more have less significant, but serious, problems with gambling.
Warning signs may include:
• missing work or family functions in order to spend time gambling
• increasing the time and money spent gambling
• preoccupation with funding the gambling (borrowing money, selling possessions, stealing)
• gambling to get money to pay the family expenses, gambling more after winning, gambling more after losing
• gambling as an escape or a coping mechanism
• being secretive or dishonest about the extent of the gambling
• being remorseful, self destructive, or having trouble sleeping
• lack of concern about reputation, family needs, and personal welfare
Gambling is a Process Addiction meaning an abuse or dependence upon a behavior series—a process. It is not about winning or losing, it is about the process. When someone with the addiction is in the process of gambling, measurable levels of dopamine increase in the brain. This is a chemical response not unlike Substance Addiction. The ‘process’ causes the brain chemical release. Drug-use by a drug addict results in the dopamine response in the reward centers of the brain. The ‘process’ of gambling elicits the same brain chemical function in the reward centers of the gambling addict’s brain. Gambling creates an intense pleasure for the addict; which explains why they continue to gamble regardless of negative consequences.

Should the candidate be evaluated as pathological, he’d also stand a 78% chance of also being found to abuse alcohol; according to one University of Calgary study ; along with having the greatest likelihood of being determined to have antisocial personality disorder of all the Axis II disturbances in the DSM IV. A 10.24.2008 abc.com article reported the Senator regularly takes prescription Ambien, but their focus was atrociously blurred to probing the medications side effects risks.

Since this short term “sleep” medication is prescribed for reasons from chronic pain to Anxiety and Bi-Polar disorders, what matters is what disorder is prompting this prospective commander-in-chief to need a doctors help to fall asleep!? My contention is not to say these are the disorders with which Senator McCain negotiates life and all of his decisions; but instead to say that since disturbances such as these are probable, given his very publicly reported gambling behavior, he must be assessed—and results made public—before he’s even pondered electable.
